Where does a cappuccino get its colour from?
The tasty beverage; "cappuccino", doesn't get its name from a description of the method by which the coffee is made, in the same manner as an espresso or latte. It actually takes its name from the colour of the robes of the Capuchin friars, who were known for their austere brown robes[1]. The reason for this is that when an espresso was mixed with the correct ratio of frothed milk, the resulting colour resembled the colour of the friar's clothes.
The Capuchin friars were a bit of a mid-century pop culture reference, as they were also the inspiration for the name of the Capuchin monkey, whose patterned fur also resembles the holy men's robes[2].
